Yes I agree with the thesis “ like the yodeling and banjo picking that punctuate the soundtrack to Raising Arizona or the country bluegrass, folk, and gospel throughout O Brother, Where out tho? These moments of MUZAK codify the extreme and therefore comical stereotypes from which each character is derived”( Hainge 38). And (Alison Mcentire don’t be silly Blog prompt 3). The music in both of them is very different from each other in raising Arizona a lot of up tempo, non moral, police chasing sounds was a major part. In O Brother, Where art thou I noticed that the sound where a lot of on the godly side like when they were at the water and the saints were getting baptized, or when Everett saw his little girls’ on the stage at some event they were singing a godly song. Even throughout the movie certain dialogs took place that totally separated O Brother, Where Art Thou from Raising Arizona. In Raising Arizona some sound indicated that something was about to happen like as soon as Hi was going to get chased by the police, or when he was getting beat up by Smalls I thought that was funny. I also thought that each character played right into all of the set ups of the music. That allowed Raising Arizona, and O Brother, Where Art Thou to be two very funny movies. They displayed a sense of humor which is always good, and neither one of those movies felled to make me laugh.

Very valid points throughout your bost. I agree definitly that the music personifys each of the films perfectly. Alot of the music in Raising Arizona sort of gave you that cops theme music feel with a tinge of almost monty python like antics. In contrast Oh Brother Where Art Thou was a revival of the folksy god fearing genre of music. They were both rather country but in Oh Brother it seemed that it was either glorifying the lord or a simple feel good melody for the hard times. I think that without these soundtracks it simply would not have been the same in either movie. The characters I think would have come off much harsher and criminal than and the comedy much less succint with what was going on in the movie. In Raising Arizona the music was delightful because it relayed the utterly ridiculous hopelessness in Hi and Ed’s life. In Oh Brother the music enhanced the hilariousness in the trio of Ulysses, Ed, and Delmar’s plight throughout their quest.
